Xperia M5 Dual Review
I've been using the Xperia M5 Dual for a few months now. What I can say about this phone is that it fits its name perfectly, "mid-range smartphone" though the price doesn't match with other low-budget smartphones.
It costs me MYR1699 which is still quite expensive though it is expected of the Xperia's series.
3GB, that's how big the RAM is and it performs just fine with its multi-tasking.
As a heavy user, 2600mAh may not be enough for a whole day usage. With large RAM and many ongoing background activities, battery couldn't lasts for a minimum of 5 hours if it's used actively. Nevertheless, its STAMINA mode comes in handy during those times.
It also has Ultra STAMINA mode which extends battery life by disabling many functions and only left with the very basic of a phone function.
For a smartphone photography enthusiast, the M5 is a good phone to be used in taking photos. Reason is I've used both the M5 and the Xperia Z5 Premium Dual (Sony's flagship model) and it seems that the M5's manual mode could give the user a better experience in smartphone photography because we can adjust its ISO unlike the Z5.
As an enthusiast in smartphone photography, I find that the ISO setting is very important in taking photos in low-light. There are times when the Sony's SUPERIOR AUTO mode is undependable (for the M5 model).
I love the 13MP front-camera. It's just incomparable with the other Xperias (exclude the X and XZ models) that it could take beautiful selfies. The images are very sharp and clear. On the other hand, the 21MP rear-camera is also a strong point for this mid-range smartphone. The images processed turned out to be sharp and clear but I don't really like it when the photos are taken in low-light. It may look a bit over-saturated though it is still better than other smartphones.
Another feature of this phone is its 4K recording. For a 4K recording mode in smartphone, of course it'll drain the battery very fast. Around 5 minutes of recording, the phone's temperature may rise up but the recording can still continue and may record up to 11 minutes at best. One important aspect you need for this mode is a large SD Card with a fast transfer rate as the video consumes large spaces.
Entertainment wise, movies and games run smoothly. The only thing I dislike about this phone is its placement of speaker. Although I love how the speaker is designed and all but it's not strategic for it to be placed at the bottom-left side which is very annoying when we watch movies or play games horizontally as we might cover it.
As we all know, the M5 is rated ip68 which means its a dust-tight and waterproof device. It seems fine when i wash it like how its PV shows. However, what will happen when we submerge it into water?
It is known that Sony discourages us to submerge it into water but doesn't it makes its ip68 rated useless besides a slightly splash or drizzle from the rain?
Well, I've tried taken it underwater and you can find out more about it here.
